The importance of building an effective dialogue not only at the national, but also at the international level was pointed out in the statement made by the Deputy Minister for Veterans Affairs, Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons of Ukraine on European Integration Oleksii Illiashenko at the International Conference «5 years of dialogue and 25 years of mediation in Ukraine: from confrontation to understanding», which began its work today, December 4th, in Odessa.

The conference was organized by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the activities of organizations involved in the development of mediation. Also, 5 years ago, the OSCE launched activities in the field of supporting a culture of dialogue.

The OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine, Ambassador Henrik Villadsen, in his welcoming to the event noted that the conference is dedicated to summarizing the application of various dialogue and mediation practices in Ukraine, analysing their effectiveness, exchanging experience between Ukrainian and international experts, and the like. In addition, he expressed gratitude to the Ministry for Veterans Affairs for cooperation and handed thanks to the Deputy Minister for European Integration Oleksii Illiashenko.

In turn, Oleksii Illiashenko thanked the OSCE for effective cooperation, support for Ukraine in the struggle for sovereignty and assistance to adversely affected persons by the aggression of the Russian Federation.

During his speech in the panel «Experience and the possibilities of using dialogue in different fields and with various stakeholders at the national level», the Deputy Minister spoke about the Ministry’s achievements in improving dialogue and peacebuilding, and outlined the following joint steps in this direction by the Ministry for Veterans Affairs and the OSCE.

The Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine for European Integration Olena Simonenko and Anton Yaschenko, Executive Director of the Reforms Delivery Office took part in the panel together with Oleksii Illiashenko.

The event will be continued until December 6, and aims to combine the experience and opinions of international and national experts, representatives of international, governmental and non-governmental organizations, participants of the dialogue processes, researchers and scientists.
