The Ministry for Reintegration of Temporary Occupied Territories of Ukraine held negotiations with the French delegation on implementation of projects for reconstruction of water supply system in Luhansk oblast, in particular in Popasna city.

The Ministry for Reintegration of TOT of Ukraine was represented by Deputy Minister Davyd Makarian. The French side was represented by Jean-Jacques Giyodo, Economic Advisor at the Embassy of France in Ukraine. He noted the support of the French Republic of Ukraine’s actions for the development of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts of Ukraine.

The parties paid attention to the importance of restoration and modernization of water supply facilities in the region, which were adversely affected as a result of armed aggression of the Russian Federation, as a result of which the local residents are deprived of quality drinking water, and the natural environment has a negative environmental impact.

Six French companies Stereau, Razel, Vinci, Eiffage, Civipol and Egis were selected by the Ministry of Economy and Finance of France to participate in the second stage of the competition to select potential companies for the implementation of project.

"These companies have experience of work in Ukraine, and also have successfully implemented projects for construction of water supply facilities in Europe and abroad. As a result of our meeting, French companies expressed their support to Ukraine and found interest in participating in the projects of reconstruction and modernization of water supply facilities in Donbas," emphasized David Makaryan.

The next stage is a visit to the reconstruction facilities, including the complex of the Western Filtering Station of the Communal Enterprise "Popasnyansky District Vodokanal". During the visit, which will be held within days, French specialists will be able to inspect the facilities in Luhansk oblast in person, that will be modernized within the framework of the projects. They will also be able to get acquainted with technical documentation.

Previously, the Ministry for Reintegration launched realization of the project with France on modernization of drinking water supply system in Mariupol. This project is fully financed by provision of a soft loan, the amount of which reaches EUR 64 million. The loan is granted for a period of 30 years, the interest rate is 0.08% per annum, and the grace period is 10 years. The project will allow Mariupol city to modernize the system of housing and communal services that are vital to the population, providing residents with stable water supply and quality drinking water that meets international standards (EU and WHO standards).
