HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE TO POPULATION NEAR THE CONTACT LINE: CORE DIRECTION OF FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FROM INTERNATIONAL PARTNERS
The European Investment Bank, as well as the governments of France, Sweden, and the United Kingdom are allocating funds for supporting the population of Donetsk and Lugansk oblasts, affected by the armed aggression of the Russian Federation, as representatives of the global community spoke during the session of the “Dialogue on Peace and Reintegration” National Platform.
“The eastern territories of Ukraine are one of the core fields for activity of the European Investment Bank. The objective of our financial assistance is to improve the quality of life of people on territories close to the contact line,” said Head of the EIB mission to Ukraine Jean-Erik de Zagon.
Thus, according to the Head of the Mission, in the course of over 6 years of the international armed conflict, EIB has invested more than a billion EUR into the eastern regions of Ukraine. These funds were directed to reconstruction of municipal social facilities (schools, hospitals etc.), repair of roads, power supply utilities etc.
In his turn, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France in Ukraine Etienne de Poncins spoke about the “Water of Mariupol” project financed in the amount of 64 million EUR. “We undertook the project of potable water supply to Mariupol, because our country has extensive experience in implementation of similar initiatives,” stated the French diplomat.
Apart from that, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden in Ukraine Tobias Thyberg stressed the importance of overcoming economic discrimination and ensuring equal access for all citizens irrespective of sex, to entrepreneurship activity and receipt of economic benefits. Deputy Ambassador of the United Kingdom Nicholas Harrocks noted the Concept of Economic Development of the Donbass, presented by MinTOT.
Deputy Minister for Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine Rostyslav Zamlynskyi also spoke at the conference of the “Dialogue on Peace and Reintegration” National Platform, stressing that special economic conditions have to be implemented in Donetsk and Lugansk oblasts, to boost development of these regions and to assist local entrepreneurs in reaching new sales markets. For this purpose, Ministry for Reintegration is preparing the Strategy of Development of Donetsk and Lugansk Oblasts, to be brought for consideration of the Verkhovna Rada in spring, together with all the supporting acts, which will ensure its implementation.
