Today, December 18, 2018, an international high-level conference "Political and Legal Consequences of Human Rights Violations in Conflict-affected Regions" is taking place in Tbilisi. For the first time, representatives of Governments of Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia at the same site talk about human rights violations in the territories occupied by Russian Federation.
Within the framework of the event, Minister Vadym Chernysh presented a report on systematic violations of human rights in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, and also talked about manipulation and restriction of human rights associated with occupation.
"Today, the International Conference brought together the states that suffered from aggression of Russian Federation: Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova have a common problem - occupied territories, where the same methods of influence are used and which are controlled by RF directly or through the persons appointed by it. Because of such actions of the aggressor state in occupied territories millions of people suffer, and above all - because of human rights violations. We know that in Russian Federation there are serious problems with violation of human rights: freedom of assembly (the right to hold rallies, pickets, demonstrations) is not practiced at all, so what can be said about restrictions related to occupation, where the right to use force applies.Other rights, including the right to participate in legitimate elections, are also violated. For example, in temporarily occupied Crimea, Russian Federation, using its own armed forces, urges Ukrainian citizens to participate in illegitimate elections, which is expressly prohibited by the Geneva Convention. People who live in the occupied territories with the participation of FSB disappear without investigation and trial - force tortures is used, are used, dissent is suppressed, hundreds of citizens are missing. This happens every day. Therefore, of course, given that Russia always threatens the use of military force, the main emphasis is on the fact that the war does not "go off.At the International Conference today, I want to keep in mind during geopolitical discussions that people in the occupied territories suffer every day, people are deprived of their rights because the occupying power simply does everything to crush the will to oppose and suppress dissent. After all, Russia simply does not share the European and universal values shared by Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova. That is why the representatives of the governments of our three countries today at this conference will tell about the terrible human rights violations by Russian Federation in the occupied territories in order to attract the attention of the whole world to this issue", - said Vadym Chernysh.
