BRIGHT MURALS FROM YAN PTUSHKO FROM SIEVIERODONETSK

26.11.2019 | 14:42

Yan created his first mural in 2016, flowers on a two-story building, as a gift to Sievierodonetsk on City Day. The mayor’s office did not provide him with financial assistance, but Sievierodonetsk Crisis Media Centre helped.

Now, Yan has more than 15 murals in different cities of Luhansk and Donetsk Oblasts. The largest is on a nine-story building in Toretsk.

Mural creation is a rather costly task. To be able to realize his ideas, Yan is constantly searching for grant funds. Social activists who want to decorate their city with murals often help.

For example, Yan’s work on a five-story building in Vuhledar appeared due to the initiative of local librarians. Their project won the competition of the Ministry of Culture «Small cities - Great impressions». On his own initiative, the artist won projects from UNICEF and the British Council in Ukraine. With their assistance, he painted the buildings of four schools in Sievierodonetsk.

Yan wants to realize a project in which artists from different regions of the country would paint buildings in Sievierodonetsk.

«Perhaps it could grow into a museum of a street art. Maybe it would benefit the development of tourism. So that people come and see that we also have life here, that we are trying to develop», ‒ noted Ptushko.
