UP TO 1500 APPLICANTS FROM TOT ENTERED THE UKRAINIAN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS IN 2020
Inna Holovanchuk, Deputy Minister for Reintegration of the Temporary Occupied Territories announced the aforementioned results of the Introductory Campaign 2020 during the expert discussion "Education and the Occupied Territories" held by the Analytical Center of UCU.
According to Holovanchuk, as of the end of August, 1008 applicants from the temporarily occupied territories (TOT) of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts of Ukraine used the services of Educational Centers "Donbas-Ukraine" to enter higher education institutions in the Government-controlled area of Ukraine. Another 321 applicants used a similar program "Crimea-Ukraine" for citizens from the temporarily occupied territory of the Crimean Peninsula.
The Deputy Minister emphasized that this year, compared to 2019, the total number of applicants from TOT has decreased by 29%. This is primarily due to the impact of the pandemic, as well as restrictions imposed by the occupation administrations on the crossing of EECPs with TOT.
At the same time, Inna Holovachuk noted that the number of applicants this year may still increase, because the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has extended the entry campaign for applicants from the TOT until October 23.
"Our next steps are to increase the number of applicants from TOT, who enter educational institutions located in the Government-controlled area of Ukraine, as well as to establish a platform for this ambitious and active youth," said Inna Holovanchuk.
The most popular choice of applicants from Crimea, as last year, is Tavrida National University named after Volodymyr Vernadsky. Thirty people have entered this institution. Applicants from temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts most often chose East Ukrainian National University named after Volodymyr Dahl. It was chosen by 131 applicants. The most popular faculty, which this year was chosen by applicants from TOT is Medical.
Let us recall that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted amendments to the Law "On Higher Education", allowing applicants from TOT to enter Ukrainian high education institutions by entrance examinations within the established quotas. To raise awareness among young people on TOT about this opportunity for applicants, the Ministry for Reintegration of TOT together with the Ministry of Education and Science launched the program "You are welcome here".
