MINISTER OKSANA KOLIADA MET WITH A REPRESENTATIVE OF UNHCR IN UKRAINE, PABLO MATEU
September 13, 2019, a meeting was held between Oksana Koliada, Minister of Veterans Affairs, Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons of Ukraine, and Pablo Mateu, representative of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Ukraine
The Parties discussed further directions of joint activities, mainly, provision of assistance by UNHCR to people affected by the conflict in the East of Ukraine, and temporary occupation of certain territories of Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea by the Russian Federation.
Pablo Mateu said that UNHCR is committed to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for refugees, internally displaced communities and stateless persons:
“UNHCR in Ukraine is coordinating international efforts aimed at protecting people who are forced to leave their homes and supporting those who live near the contact line. Our organization provides such persons with the most necessary assistance: legal and social support, assistance in the restoration of housing, and also helps to protect their fundamental human rights,” stated UNHCR representative in Ukraine.
He also noted the importance of supporting and providing assistance to veterans and internally displaced persons affected by the armed aggression of the Russian Federation in the East of Ukraine.
Oksana Koliada thanked UNHCR for its continued support and emphasized its extreme importance for Ukraine:
“We plan to cover a number of issues in the areas of activity for the Ministry. These include rehabilitation of veterans of the war in the East of Ukraine, reintegration of internally displaced persons, assistance in resolving housing and employment issues for veterans and IDPs, further improvement of services in EECP and communities and many other important issues,” noted the Minister.
