Today, on 12 July 2019, Minister for Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons Vadym Chernysh during working trip visited Mariupol

A formal ceremonyon handing the keys of the apartments to 68 families of internally displaced persons was held during the visit - new residents of Mariupol, as displaced persons from temporarily occupied territories are called in the city, which were forced to leave their homes and build a new life. Today in Mariupol more than 260 IDPs received housing due to the cooperation of MTOT and the Mariupol City Council.

«Within the framework of the Grant representatives of Mariupol community have become the most active and effective. Everything is possible, because there is a desire. There are people here who feel in their hearts the need to sympathize and support IDPs. The Grant 50% for 50% is very effective, because we give money to the local community, which independently makes decisions, following a single principle - justice, which is provided by point distribution system based on the experience of Georgia, which was recently approved by the Government for the whole Ukraine.

I want to thank all new residents of Mariupol that you have found the courage to start new life from a blank page, have managed to overcome difficulties, have found a common language with the local authorities. And today the community of Mariupol is one of the best examples of support, understanding and cooperation,» noted Minister Vadym Chernysh.

The apartments were acquired as part of realization of MTOT Government Resolution* at the expense of the local and state budget for 50/50% and credited to the temporary housing fund of Mariupol.

IDPs receive apartments during the selection process of Commission at the City Council, which includes representatives of the City Council, community leaders, and international partners.

Head of Mariupol City Council Vadym Boichenko thanked Minister Vadym Chernysh for the ongoing initiative at the state and international level to improve the life of IDPs that were adversely affected by the armed Russian aggression in the East of Ukraine. In particular, he noted the contribution of MTOT to the development and support of the legislative framework for obtaining state grants for housing for displaced persons.

«It is highly satisfying to see that Mariupol has become home for tens of thousands of internally displaced persons, whom we always call our dear new residents of Mariupol. And the most important thing that we can tell you is - Thank You. Thank you for believing in Mariupol, thank you for coming and enriching our large family,» emphasized Vadym Boichenko.

There have been more than 600 internally displaced persons who received free housing due to the grant. This is far from satisfying the needs in housing  of all internally displaced persons, but with the active assistance of MTOT the Government have been distributed state grant funds for the third consecutive year (15.2 million UAH in 2017, 29.7 million UAH in 2018 and in 2019 out of allocated 34 million UAH about 18 million UAH has already been distributed for housing for IDPs), which are doubled in cooperation with local authorities and is effectively spent for housing of displaced persons all over Ukraine.

Today, Mariupol, Lyman, Pokrovsk, Sloviansk Donetsk oblast, Popasna and Zolote Luhansk Oblast, Berdiansk and PrymorskZaporizhia Oblast, and KryvyiRih Dnipro Oblast have joined the receipt of the grant.
