MINISTRY FOR REINTEGRATION OF TOT ADDRESSED DUOLINGO PLATFORM WITH A PROPOSAL TO INTRODUCE A COURSE IN THE CRIMEAN TATAR LANGUAGE
The Ministry for Reintegration of the Temporary Occupied Territories of Ukraine has submitted an official letter to the Duolingo company, which is the most popular platform for learning foreign languages in the world, with a proposal to launch the Crimean Tatar language course on the basis of their service.
In the letter of the Ministry for Reintegration of TOT signed by the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Minister for Reintegration of the Temporary Occupied Territories of Ukraine Oleksii Reznikov to the Duolingo company reads that the Crimean Tatar language (latin - Qırımtatar tili) is the language of one of the indigenous peoples of Ukraine and is an essential element of its identity and ethnocultural integrity. Today more than 300 thousand citizens speak this language in Ukraine, and up to 6 million citizens speak this language in the whole world. This indicates that the Crimean Tatar language is sufficiently widespread, but it is at stake due to the lack of information and inaccessibility to study materials.
This is precisely why the Government of Ukraine launched the preparation of the draft Strategy for Development and Popularization of the Crimean Tatar Language for the Period till 2032; the representatives of the government, the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, higher and secondary educational institutions and publishing houses are engaged in this process.
"We understand that the best level of learning, dissemination and use of any language, which contributes to its development, is realized through its integration into modern digital platforms. Therefore, we appeal to you with the proposal to consider the possibility of launching the Crimean Tatar language course (language pairs: Crimean Tatar - Ukrainian, Ukrainian - Crimean Tatar) on the Duolingo platforms and reaffirm our readiness to involve experts and scientists from our side to work with Duolingo Incubator," the letter reads.
The Ministry for Reintegration of TOT believes that the launch of the Crimean Tatar language course on Duolingo platforms will draw a significant public interest to the product, help pupils and students to study it, contribute to its worldwide popularization and in the long run become a great contribution to the cultural heritage of Ukraine's indigenous people, the Crimean Tatars and the Ukrainian nation in general.
Let us recall that the Ministry for Reintegration of TOT also has addressed Google LLC with a request to include the Crimean Tatar language into the Google Translate service.
