«The major concern is the situation of children living in the non-Government controlled territory of Ukraine, as well as near the contact line in the East of Ukraine. We are working hard, including with the help of international humanitarian organizations, to ensure their basic needs for protection, food, and security. In addition, the Government of Ukraine is constantly improving the mechanisms for providing medical assistance, quality Ukrainian education, processing of documents, mine action training and other needs,» said Oleksii Illiashenko.

In turn, representatives of «Save the Children» organization positively evaluated cooperation with the Government of Ukraine, local and civil-military administrations of Ukraine and assured in further assistance to the children of Ukraine.

The Parties discussed joint activities in 2020, in particular on the implementation of the Safe School Declaration adopted by Ukraine last year, which has been in force worldwide since 2015 and is the only specialized international document dedicated solely to the safety of schools, children and teachers in situations of armed conflict. For example, the need to ensure the continuation of education, the prohibition of the use of educational institutions for military purposes, the investigation of each case of attacks on educational institutions and the punishment of those responsible, providing necessary and timely assistance to persons affected by attacks on schools are emphasized in the Declaration.

During the meeting it was noted that recently there has been a negative tendency towards a decrease in the attention of international donors to the humanitarian crisis and a large underfunding of the humanitarian response plan in Ukraine. In this regard, DariuszZietek, during a working visit to Brussels in April last year, encouraged European Union donors to increase financial support for humanitarian response needs.

OleksiiIlliashenko thanked «Save the Children» organization for supporting Ukraine in protecting children and their rights.
