On 4 July 2019 the Ministry for Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons of Ukraine (hereinafter referred to as «MTOT») held an official presentation of the research results of the project «Ukrainian frontier: challenges for Zakarpattia and Pontic littoral»

The research was prepared by the non-governmental organization «Center for International Security» and the National Institute for Strategic Studies in partnership with MTOT with support of the Representative office of Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Ukraine within the project «The EU Neighborhood», funded by The German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development.

The event brought together Minister Vadym Chernysh, head of Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Ukraine Gabriele Baumann, deputy director of the National Institute for Strategic Studies Kostiantyn Kononenko, and director of the non-governmental organization “Center for International Security” Valeriy Kravchenko, who moderated this project.

The objective of the project is to identify current threats and challenges in multicultural, multi-national regions where there are risks of increasing conflict potential through internal and external factors - the Ukrainian Pontic littoral and Zakarpattia, as well as developing recommendations for reducing certain destructive impacts, improving the quality of districts, communities, local and central executive authorities.

Minister Vadym Chernysh:

«Very often behind this “wound” that exists in Donbas, the problems through which the parts of Ukrainian territory under control of the Russian Federation are forcibly rejected, destabilizing activity on the part of Russia in all regions of Ukraine stays inattentive, as well as activities to identify "favorable» factors for conducting special operations. The purpose of such activity is to excite the society, make it unstable and use it for its own imperialistic purposes.

The State has to take following tasks in such situation: firstly, to clearly identify such activity, secondly, to propose specific models for identifying internal problems, as well as solve them independently, not allowing them to be speculated by either internal destabilizing forces or external ones»

Vadym Chernysh also thanked the experts who attended the presentation of results of the project «Ukrainian frontier: challenges for Zakarpattia and Pontic littoral» and the Representative office of Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Ukraine for important collaboration and assistance, and also stressed that MTOT will further contribute to the research, and mainly build effective communications to inform government authorities of Ukraine and undertake activities at all levels to resolve issues of preventing and overcoming internal and external impacts that are to destabilize the Ukrainian State.

The research was carried out using developed by MTOT "Methodology Guide for Assessing the Risks of Conflicts in Communities Adversely Affected by the Armed Conflict"
