NATIONAL AND REGIONAL DIMENSIONS: PRESENTATION OF THE SAFETY DATA SHEET OF UKRAINE 2019

Improving decision-making efficiency at the local and national levels by raising awareness of regional risks and threats to security of Ukraine is the main goal of the study «Safety Data Sheet of Ukraine 2019», the presentation of which happened during the round table on «Safety Data Sheet of Ukraine 2019: national and regional dimensions».

Director of the National Institute for Strategic Studies Oleksandr Litvinenko, project manager of the NATO Information and Documentation Centre Svitlana Rotayenko, Deputy Minister for Veterans Affairs, Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons of Ukraine Oleksii Illiashenko delivered opening statements at the beginning of the event.

Oleksii Illiashenko emphasized the practical importance of the Project «Safety Data Sheet of Ukraine 2019», the research results of which are used in the activities of authorities to prevent security threats.

Specialists from National Institute for Strategic Studies (hereinafter referred to as «NISS») Valeriy Kravchenko and Oleksandra Davymuk, as well as the first Deputy Head of the International Security Centre Andrii Karakuts, presented the results of a study conducted in June-October 2019 in 6 Oblasts of Ukraine and introduced the round table participants to the main problems and challenges that determine the specifics of the regions and form an integrated nature of the national security space. In addition, a system of indicators developed by the authors of the project was presented, which determines the integrated state of security in the relevant regions of Ukraine.

After the presentation of the research results, there was also a discussion among participants, acceded to by government authorities, law enforcement agencies, the academic space and non-governmental organizations, in particular, representatives of the Office of the President of Ukraine, the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine, the Government Office for Coordination on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, National Police of Ukraine, National Guard of Ukraine, the State Emergency Service, the National Academy of the SBU and the like.

The project «Safety Data Sheet of Ukraine" has been implemented since 2017 by the National Institute for Strategic Studies of Ukraine and the non-governmental organization «International Security Centre» in cooperation with the Ministry for Veterans Affairs, Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons of Ukraine, the Ukrteleradiopress Institute and with the support of NATO Information and Documentation Centre in Ukraine.

The aim of the project is to study the security situation in various regions of Ukraine, create a risk map for each of them based on the received information, and develop recommendations for an adequate response to current threats.
