Occupation Authorities Hide an Accident with Gas Turbines "Siemens" Brought to Crimea Having Bypassed International Sanctions
On August 30, 2018, signs of roof destruction of one of the production facilities of Balaklava Thermal Power Station TPS, which is being built near Sevastopol in temporarily occupied territory of Crimea, were revealed. A section of the roof 10x20 meters burned out, judging by the damages to the roof and typical smoke (see the photo)
SIEMENS gas turbines are located on the premises. The turbines were imported bypassing international sanctions. It was the accident that caused the delay, already for the third time, the launch of the mentioned thermal power station in operation, as well as the limitation of energy supply in Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
According to available information, the accident happened due to engineering and construction norms violation by the TPS personnel, and SIEMENS did not provide its specialists for the installation and commissioning of equipment.
The construction of the TPS is carried out by Tekhnopromeksport of Russian state-owned corporation "Rostech", which is subject to Ukrainian and international sanctions. Natural gas, which is planned to be used for electricity production by Russian Federation, is illegally extracted from deposits on the Ukrainian Black Sea shelf with the help of floating drilling rigs "Sivash", "Tavryda", "Petro Godovanets", "Ukraine" ("Independence").
The latest data on operation of these platforms were recorded by identification tools this autumn, in particular the activity of the floating drilling rig Syvash on September 22, 2018, Tavryda on September 29, 2018, Petro Godovanets (renamed by occupation authorities to MODU Crimea 2) on October 2, 2018.
At present, the owner of these platforms of SJSC "Chernomornaftogaz" and NJSC "Naftogaz of Ukraine" appealed to the court to recover damages caused by illegal seizure by Russian Federation of assets in Autonomous Republic of Crimea and use of natural resources of Ukraine.
