OKSANA KOLIADA: WE NEED TO KNOW THE NAME OF EVERY PERSON WHO IS STILL IN CAPTIVITY OR IS CONSIDERED MISSING

This was discussed today at a meeting organized by Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine, the first primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine Epiphanius with those indestructible persons who were captured, with the families of those who are still illegally imprisoned in the temporarily occupied territory and the Russian Federation and those who are missing.

“This is an informal meeting and therefore the communication here is easy and honest. They talked about important challenges. Those who have returned need psychological assistance, guardianship and certain signposts for the future. This also applies to the relatives of those who are still in captivity,” said the Minister for Veterans Affairs, Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons.

She noted that now it is important to intensify the search for missing persons. And the Ministry for Veterans Affairs is also actively working in this direction.

The draft bill of Ukraine “On Amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On the Legal Status of Persons Missing” is being elaborated.

This provides, in particular, that the organizational, informational and logistical support of the Commission’s activities will fall on the Ministry for Veterans Affairs.

It is important that then the administrator and the holder of the Register will be determined by the Ministry for Veterans Affairs. In general, our example to work in this direction is the entire United States Search Agency for Prisoners of War, which has been searching for missing persons in a war for decades. We have a lot to learn from them and we are ready,” said Oksana Koliada.
