Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Reintegration of the Temporary Occupied Territories of Ukraine and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to Ukraine Etienne de Poncins discussed cooperation between Ukraine and France in the framework of joint projects.

In particular, within the framework of the meeting they discussed the project of alternative water supply of Mariupol (Donetsk Oblast) and the project on recovery of the Western Filter Station of Popasna district, Luhansk Oblast.

“France is a great friend and important partner of Ukraine. We highly appreciate Paris' efforts on clear and consistent support to Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, in particular within the framework of the "Normandy Format". And I especially want to thank for support of the social and economic recovery of the eastern regions of Ukraine, which have been adversely affected by the aggression of the Russian Federation. In particular, in the context of providing funds within the framework of the project “Modernization of the water supply system of Mariupol,” emphasized Oleksii Reznikov.

Deputy Prime Minister also expressed the expectation for France to join the construction and reconstruction of the railway in Luhansk Oblast (connection of the eastern part of the region with the cities Rubizhne/Starobilsk).

Currently, the Ministry of Infrastructure, together with Luhansk Regional State Administration and Ukrzaliznytsia are working on the feasibility study of the project. In the proposals of the French side on establishment of partnership in the railway and infrastructure industries one of the points is possible participation of France in the implementation of this project.

The situation with the coronavirus pandemic in the world was also discussed within the framework of the meeting.

Of course, special attention during the meeting was paid to the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. The Parties noted a certain success in the humanitarian field, in particular, the mutual release of detainees.

However, there are still acute issues on the violation of ceasefire regime by the Russian Federation and the armed formations supported by it; lack of control from the Government of Ukraine over some areas of the Ukrainian-Russian border in Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts and unwillingness of the Russian side to resolve this issue; as well as attempts by the Russian Federation to use the coronavirus pandemic to lift sanctions without de-occupying the Ukrainian Crimea and part of Donbas.

Let us recall, that earlier the Ministry for Reintegration and the Embassy of France have discussed cooperation in the framework of realization of the project for the supply of drinking water to Mariupol.
