«INVICTUS GAMES» PREPARATORY TRAINING CAMP ALLOWED PARTICIPANTS AND TRAINERS TO WORK TOGETHER AND DETERMINE FURTHER TRAINING PROGRAM

During the week of the preparatory training camp, members of the National Team received new skills and incentives. A training program was developed in collaboration with a team of trainers.

«I am glad that the first training camp was held. After all, I am pleased with the work of both the National Team and the team of trainers. All trainers are sport people, highly qualified professionals. The team of combatants and trainers combined their efforts. The most important thing for us is unity and accumulation of our efforts. Be strong!», ‒ said Serhii Konyushok, the Head Trainer of the «Invictus Games» National Team.

On November 20, the preparatory training camp began its work in such kinds of sport like: archery, cycling, powerlifting, shot put, indoor rowing, sitting cycling and wheelchair running. This week, team members conducted a series of classes in selected sports, as well as will attend English classes and work with a psychologist.

The Minister for Veterans Affairs, Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons of Ukraine Oksana Koliada noted the importance of promoting «Invictus Games» in Ukraine, congratulated the members of the Team and wished them strength in further preparations.

«Powerful work is awaiting, so I wish you strength and patience. You are already the winners. Next is a difficult path of training and preparation. Be an example for others, no matter what! Good luck to you!», ‒ wished Oksana Koliada to the Invictus Team.

After the camp, each of the team members will continue training according to an individual plan.

«We want to be an example for other wounded combatants. There is country, family, friends and brothers in arms who are supporting us! Thank you for your support!», ‒ said the representative of the National Team Artem Lukashuk.

Oksana Horbach, Head of the Center for Strategic Communications StratCom Ukraine, also noted the importance of holding «Invictus Games».

«We are paving the way for adaptive sports in Ukraine. Next year, we invited two trainers from the Invictus Nations in such areas of sport as sitting volleyball, wheelchair running, indoor rowing and sitting cycling. Our goal is to increase the level of readiness of the National Team in these sports, as well as transfer the experience of leading nations to our trainers and veterans», ‒ said Oksana Horbach.

On the last day of the preparatory training camp of the «Invictus Games»team, an open training session was held of the National Team and the organizers of the project partners.

The culmination of the preparation of the National Team, which will last for 5 months, will be a performance at the Invictus Games 2020 in the Hague on May 9-16.

The project team contributes to the development and promotion of sports as an effective rehabilitation among wounded combatants, and also encourages society and the state to create the necessary conditions for this. This year, the preparation and conduct of «Invictus Games» in Ukraine and the participation of the Team in international competitions in the Hague in 2020 are provided for in the budget, and therefore have financial support from the state, as one of the measures for the psychological and physical rehabilitation of veterans.
