Deputy Minister for Veterans Affairs, Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons of Ukraine on European Integration OleksiiIlyashenko attended the 5th meeting of the EU-Ukraine Association Committee as a member of the Ukrainian delegation.

DmytroKuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration opened the meeting that began today in Brussels, Belgium.

During the meeting, OleksiiIlyashenko also made a statement that because of the long-term aggression of the Russian Federation, international law and human rights in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine are systematically violated.

He drew the attention of the participants to a number of issues, in particular the need to provide diverse assistance to citizens in the temporarily occupied territory and the importance of the successful reintegration of internally displaced persons in the Government controlled area of Ukraine.

Reference was also made to the people deprived of their individual rights in the temporarily occupied territory in the East of Ukraine andCrimea, in particular Crimean Tatars, journalists, and to the creation of obstacles by the occupation authorities to education of children in the Government controlled area of Ukraine.

«Support to Ukraine is necessary for EU countries, because peaceful Ukraine - is fundamental to a safe Europe's future ‒ emphasized Oleksii Ilyashenko, ‒ Europe cannot be free and strong without an independent and sovereign Ukraine, and the illegal appetites of the Russian Federation will only grow».
