AMBASSADOR OF THE UNITED KINGDOM ANNOUNCED AN INTENTION TO EXPAND ASSISTANCE TO UKRAINIAN VETERANS AND IDPs

The Ambassador of the United Kingdom Melinda Simmons expressed an intention to provide not only humanitarian assistance to veterans and internally displaced persons but also to join the development of the institutional capacity of the Ministry for Veterans Affairs during a meeting with the Minister for Veterans Affairs, Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons of Ukraine Oksana Koliada.

"We have been focusing our efforts on humanitarian assistance to veterans, internally displaced persons and those living in a temporary occupied territory for almost 5 years. Now we want to expand the range of our assistance. We are keeping humanitarian direction and, at the same time, we want to join the development of the Ministry for Veterans Affairs, to strengthen the institutional capacity," stated Simmons.

Minister Oksana Koliada welcomed such an initiative and outlined the areas that now need such international support. She also spoke about the Veteran HUB Project, which must be implemented in each region of the country and which now is launched in 4 regions. She added that she presented the Project at NATO Headquarters to NATO Alliance Trust Fund in Brussels on transition from military carrier to civilian.

"We would be grateful if you were actively involved in the activities of the Trust Fund and helped in the long run to realize this important and useful Project for every veteran and their relatives throughout the country. We also plan to launch the Project Office of our Ministry and your support in this direction will also be useful," said Oksana Koliada.

Participants to the meeting agreed to hold a series of working meetings in order to develop a strategy of assistance and support.
