RUSSIAN FEDERATION DESTROYS THE ANCIENT MUSLIM CEMETERY IN THE OCCUPIED CRIMEA
Construction work involving water-pipe installation from the northern oblasts of Crimea to Kerch is carried out at the place of Muslim burial in the disappeared Ungut, Kirov Oblast of the temporarily occupied Crimea. This information was recorded by MTOT in the course of monitoring the legal regime of the temporarily occupied territory.
It is likely that during the preparatory work for a water-pipe installation at the burial, «archaeological excavations» are being carried out, while the occupying authorities are trying to present Muslim burials as «Ancient Scythian burials».
The occupation administration of the Russian Federation in Crimea is consistently trying to increase water intake from local sources, creating serious long-term risks for the ecology of Crimea. At the moment, there are already negative consequences of such a course: the deterioration of groundwater quality, in particular, in the northern and eastern regions of Crimea, soil salinization, and so on. The insufficient amount of water resources negatively affects the development of certain sectors of Crimean economy, in particular, agriculture and industry.
MTOT declares that the destruction of burials, religious sites, objects of historical heritage in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine is inadmissible. The inability of the occupying state to provide for the basic needs of the population cannot justify such savagery.
