The situation with COVID-19 is becoming worse on the temporarily occupied territories, however the Russian occupational administrations of the Donetsk and Lugansk Regions NGCA and of the Crimea are continuing to jeopardize the population, concealing the real picture. Thus, as at April 7, the occupational administration of Donetsk and Lugansk Regions NGCA has recognized that 6 people have coronavirus, stressing that no lethal cases have occurred.

At the same time, according to the available information, a coronavirus-infected person died in the Central District Hospital in Amvrosiyivka City. This fact is being concealed; the relevant medical documentation has been seized.

Similarly, in Kadiyivka City (Lugansk Region NGCA), virologists from Russia examine the fighters of the so-called “army corps” in the Central City Multi-Profile Hospital.

In this case, the civilian population is deprived of proper health care.

At the same time, according to ICRC, by the end of the current week, the organization is planning to send a new batch of humanitarian aid to the Donbass, including that for response to coronavirus. Thus, the cargo will contain coronavirus tests, lung ventilators, masks, gloves etc. According to the ICRC, there has been no request for humanitarian aid from the occupational administration, as before.

“This confirms once more that, in spite of the epidemiologic situation decrease, the occupational “authorities” are continuing to hide the real state of affairs,” they stressed in MRTOT.

The information about the Russian Ministry of Defense planning to treat coronavirus patients in Sevastopol, also gives rise to concerns. They have already started to prepare the Yenisey hospital vessel for this purpose.

"This worsens the already difficult epidemic situation in the Crimea," they said in MRTOT.

As at April 7, the Russian occupational authorities have recognized 22 cases of coronavirus infection in the Crimea and 5 cases in Sevastopol. 7 thousand people more are undergoing various types of observation due to suspected infection. According to the information available, the actual number of those infected is far bigger.

It is worth saying that the first ICRC humanitarian cargo was already sent to the Donbass on April 3. Thus, 13.6 tons of humanitarian cargo from WHO and ICRC were transported in frames of the agreements reached between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and ICRC President Peter Maurer. Medical institutions of Donetsk Region have already been given oxygen concentrators, intubation kits, personal protective equipment, disinfectors, medications etc.

The same day, 4 trucks with humanitarian aid departed through the Novotroyitske checkpoint to the city of Donetsk occupied by the Russian Federation. The cargo contained 9660 hygienic sets and medical goods.

The issue of humanitarian aid supply to the Crimea temporarily occupied by Russia, is also on the agenda for the time being.

We remind that MRTOT emphasized on the Russian occupational authorities in the Lugansk and Donetsk Regions NGCA and in the Crimea concealing the actual state of affairs with coronavirus from the local residents. This deprives the local people of protection from the COVID-19 epidemic. The situation is worsened due to the lack of medical staff, testing systems, and insufficient number of berths in health care institutions.
