The Minister for Veterans Affairs, Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons of Ukraine Oksana Koliada and the Mayor of Zhytomyr Serhii Sukhomlyn handed over the keys to the families who were forced to leave the temporarily occupied territory.

The subvention is implemented throughout Ukraine and is directed by the state to local budgets to support territories that have been adversely affected by armed aggression of the Russian Federation in the East of Ukraine, in particular, on the purchase of apartments for the temporary residence of internally displaced persons. The main condition for the provision of the subvention is the co-financing with local budgets: 70% is the state subvention and 30% should be allocated from the local budget.

“I thank the Zhytomyr City Council, which joined this program and supported our initiative, in particular, they quickly bought housing, received money in the last days of 2019, and already today people are moving to the obtained apartments,” noted Minister Oksana Koliada.

Due to the coordinated actions of the Government, at the end of last year, a relevant decision was made and funds were allocated for the purchase of housing in 12 cities and towns of Ukraine. Zhytomyr became one of the cities that joined this program, where 6 such apartments were obtained by large families and single-parent families.

“These apartments are considered to be the temporary housing. But I emphasize that families can live there as long as they need it and feel as if they were in their own homes,” said Serhii Sukhomlyn.
