At MTOT 450 information panels and hazard signs were handed over to companies in the East of Ukraine

At the Ministry for Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons 450 information panels and hazard signs were handed over to representatives of utility companies that provide emergency recovery work in the East of Ukraine.

These panels and hazard signs are produced to inform all categories of civilians about the risks of unexploded ordnance (hereinafter referred to as «UXO») - explosive remnants of war, as well as for the reduction of injuries and deaths of civilians.

Two companies that provide water supply in Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts - water companies «Voda Donbasu» and «Popasnyansky District Vodokanal» - and which carry out emergency repairs near the contact line, 450 information PVC-panels, visual materials for preventing mine and UXO related accidents and raising awareness among staff about the procedures of response when detected were handed over by Ministry.

«The Ministry considers it a duty to help ensure the functioning of companies and the safe livelihoods of civilians by providing informational visual and education materials so that citizens have as much information as possible related to how explosive objects look like, how to recognize them and what to do in the situation of detecting», - noted the State Secretary of the Ministry Serhii Zlakoman.

In addition, MTOT in order to mark hazardous areas and sites containing a mine threat, and to take measures to avoid danger to the life and health of civilians, handed over warning signs (markers) (triangle and square signs «Danger! Mines!») to representatives of the above-mentioned companies in the amount of 100 ea.

Based on the fact that employees of utility companies are constantly confronted with mines and explosive objects, warning signs will be placed around the hazardous area if workers find such objects when performing emergency recovery work.

«Hazard signs will be distributed along the contact line - Svitlodarsk, Novoluhansk, Mayorsk, Toretsk, also Avdiivka, Maryinka, and Novotroitske. Information panels will be placed in the premises of the utility companies, where a large number of consumers come, they will also have the opportunity to get acquainted with important information», - said a representative of the water company «Voda Donbasu».

Note that the information panels and signs are made according to the sample approved by the Government on the initiative of MTOT within the framework of budget funding, the first time in Ukraine allocated to inform civilians about the risk of mines and explosive objects.
