The British Government will provide assistance to the Ministry for Reintegration of the Temporary Occupied Territories in drafting the strategy for economic development of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts. This strategy will establish a new "business model" for these regions, attract business and investment. This, in turn, will create jobs and improve economic opportunities for the local population.

At the meeting of the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Minister for Reintegration of the Temporary Occupied Territories Oleksii Reznikov with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom to Ukraine Melinda Simmons on the launch of the project "Support for the Strategy of Transformation of the Economy of Donbas" the Parties discussed the issues of the project realization, expressed their vision of its development and defined further formats of cooperation.

The project "Support for the Strategy of Transformation of the Economy of Donbas" is funded by the British Embassy in the framework of the Good Governance Fund and targeted to support the Ministry in drafting of the strategy for economic development of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, which is focused on the Government-controlled territories of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts of Ukraine.

"It is vital that we launch this project with the United Kingdom, aimed at forming the strategy for economic development of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, because it is one of the key elements of our proactive plan for the reintegration of the TOT. I sincerely thank my British colleagues who have joined our work," said Oleksii Reznikov.

The Ukrainian executive partner of the project will be the Center for Economic Strategy, whose experts are working on the development of basic models of economic strategy within the framework of the implementation of the concept approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on December 23, 2020.

"It is essential that we develop the strategy already having the concept of economic development as a state policy approved by the Cabinet of Ministers. Everyone who is involved in the development of the strategy have to be aware that we have a framework within which we should find the most effective ways of implementation to establish comfortable conditions for people, community development and peacebuilding," emphasized the Deputy Prime Minister.

Let us recall, that in pursuance of the Government's decision to adopt the Concept, the Ministry for Reintegration of TOT plans to develop a Strategy of Economic Development of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts based on 42 international cases and submit it to the Cabinet of Ministers for approval by April 2021.

The future Strategy of Economic Development of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts will focus primarily on the needs of the people and the territorial communities in which they reside.
