VETERANS ARE THE ADVANTAGE OF THE COUNTRY THAT ARE NECESSARY TO MOTIVATE AND PROVIDE THEM WITH SELF-REALIZATION TOOLS

Oksana Koliada, Minister for Veterans Affairs, Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons, spoke about the advantages of veterans and their needs, including housing, during a meeting of Communities and Territories' Development Council, which was led by the President.

«It so happened that our beneficiaries, veterans and internally displaced persons were constantly treated as a burden for the state. This is wrong! Veterans in general are a mobilization reserve for our army. And there is a direct correlation - how well we will work so that many veterans, out of the nearly 400 000, will be able to quickly join the army, if necessary. This means that they must undergo quality rehabilitation, be reintegrated into society and be able to independently provide housing and be financially independent. Our task is to make such conditions for them», ‒ said Oksana Koliada.

The Minister said that nearly 80 000 veterans, including active duty are in need of housing.

«We need to choose the path of maximum assistance to veterans to become financially independent and obtain housing now, rather than standing in line for decades, as happened with international combatants (8 000 Afghans are still in lines for apartment, waiting for their own housing from the state). And yet, an effective auxiliary instrument is the lending program», ‒ said the Minister.

She also noted that the pilot project on a loan program for housing from Derzhmolodzhitlo of 3% per annum for up to 20 years was in high demand among veterans. The Government has allocated 200 million UAH for this program, also targeted at IDPs. However, in just 3 days, more than 10 000 applications were received. This gave confidence in the demand for such a project and an understanding of the need for its continuation and further funding for the next year.

She also reported that this year the Ministry for Veterans Affairs together with the Ministry of Regional Development, developed and introduced a program of preferential housing loans for veterans and IDPs.

«4 million people left the country as labour migrants, without receiving from the state proper support and incentives for realization here. We need to consider veterans and IDPs as a potential for communities, as an opportunity to get professional specialists from among these people at the local expense», ‒ added the Minister.
