DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER REZNIKOV AND U.S. DEPUTY SECRETARY OF STATE BIEGUN AGREED TO MEET IN WASHINGTON, DC
Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksii Reznikov met with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun. The Deputy Secretary of State noted the stability and continuity of U.S. support for Ukraine.
Oleksii Reznikov, in turn, thanked for the principled position of the United States, including the inviolability of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.
Charge d'Affaires of the United States in Ukraine a.i. Kristina Kvien, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State George Kent and Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of United States Armed Forces Ricky Waddell have also attended the meeting.
The participants of the meeting discussed issues related to the work of the Trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine, operation of the OSCE SMM, the sanctions regime against the Russian Federation and the like.
The key attention was paid to the Economic Development Strategy of Donbas, which is currently being worked on by the Ministry for Reintegration of the Temporary Occupied Territories of Ukraine. In particular, the Parties discussed possible attraction of investors from the United States. Reznikov invited experts from the United States to join the work on the strategy.
Reznikov noted that the crucial issue for investors is the existence of a sustainable judicial system of investor protection, rule of law, risk insurance system. He also said that Ukraine considers to extend the rules of international commercial arbitration to the region, because potential investors are interested in established favourable and transparent conditions.
Furthermore, the implementation of the principles of transitional justice was also discussed at the meeting.
Reznikov and Biegun also agreed on a personal meeting in Washington, DC, which will be held in the near future.
