Working visit of the Deputy Ministers of Veterans Affairs, Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons Olexander Tereshchenko and Oleksii Ilyashenko began with honouring fallen Heroes of Chernihiv Oblast and placing flowers to the wall of fame of the defenders of Ukraine, located on the central square in Chernihiv

Within the framework of this working visit, offsite meeting was held with the participation of representatives of local administrations, local government and community, at which were discussed possible methods of preventing and addressing acts of vandalism towards monuments in cemeteries, memorial sites, and memorial museums of the defenders of Ukraine.

«Each case of vandalism must be properly investigated, given the fact that the Russian Federation is taking provocative and tireless actions by various hybrid methods, aimed at destabilizing Ukrainian society. Only the consolidated actions of the relevant services, authorities at all levels, local governments, community, media, and most importantly, one patriotic position will nullify the Kremlin’s attempts to radicalize and split Ukrainian society», ‒ said Oleksii Ilyashenko during the meeting.

Deputy Ministers visited the cemetery in Mena, where on September 20, vandals spoiled the monuments to fallen defenders with white paint. Also, representatives of the Ministry visited a museum, which was also recently attacked by vandals, located in IhorMedved's house in Slobidka village Novhorod-Siverskyi district, who died in the Russian-Ukrainian war.

«The purpose of our visit is to support the families of the victims, especially given the recent events - shameful cases of vandalism. It is the responsibility of the State and society to honour the fallen, respect veterans, and help their families», ‒ noted Oleksii Ilyashenko, Deputy Minister for European Integration.

Representatives of the Ministry also visited the Loska Secondary School of Novhorod-Siverskyi district, where an unscheduled lesson of national-patriotic education was held.

«Our soldiers live as long as we keep memory in our hearts, thanks to them we have the opportunity to freely unfurl the flag of Ukraine, study and work safely. Of course, I hope that you will never know what war is, but considering that it is ongoing in the East of the country, and the Kremlin’s aggressive ambitions are not disappearing anywhere, we must realize that preparing for the defence of the Motherland is extremely important», ‒ said Olexander Tereshchenko.

The school, which was visited by the Deputy Ministers, was attended by the ATO warrior Ihor Medved, who died in Donetsk Oblast in June 2016, as evidenced by a memorial plaque placed on the facade of the educational institution.

«One of the main tasks to address the destabilization of society is to promote awareness of Ukrainians that thanks to our soldiers, veterans who are defending the independence of Ukraine in the East with arms, we have the opportunity to continue to live and develop», ‒ noted Oleksii Ilyashenko.

The purpose of the working visit was to honour the fallen Heroes, attract society to create conditions under which every veteran, members of his family, widows and orphans will feel the protection and care of the State, respect and honour of fellow citizens, as well as drawing attention to the importance of continuing the development of the volunteer movement in Ukraine, assistance in attracting citizens to social activities and patriotic education of children and youth.

Chairman of the NGO «Unified Family of Chernihiv Oblast» Shanskyi Mykola Mykolayovych noted that, given his experience in organizing meetings of mothers of veterans, fallen soldiers and mothers who were forced to leave their homes in the East, in Crimea, in the hearts of Ukrainians there is no place for intolerance towards each other through language or region: «We are all different, sometimes we speak different languages, but, despite the constant propaganda pressure and provocations, we understand that we are one people and we have one enemy - in the Kremlin».

The visit was also attended by representatives of the Chernihiv Regional State Administration, the Novhorod-Siverskyi Regional State Administration and local council, non-governmental organizations of veterans and families of fallen, veterans and family members of fallen Heroes.
